If you are interested in camping,
Atlanta's Stone
Mountain Park is less than 15 miles away. The campsite rentals generally
range from $25 - $45 and vary based on the utilities offered and location
within the campground.
If you would like something a little
bit cheaper and are willing to travel (the closest one being about an
hour away), the North Georgia mountains have a lot of great campgrounds.
Go to the Georgia State Parks website
for more details.
If you're coming from out of town
and would like to know some of the things to do in the area, here are
a few ideas!
- Stone Mountain Park:
We highly recommend visiting Stone
Mountain Park. Besides being able to climb the large granite mountain,
there are lots of activities (especially for children). Make sure you
don't miss the spectacular laser show, which is free and shown nightly
at 9:30 pm. The cost is $8/vehicle to get into the park.
- Georgia Aquarium:
The largest aquarium in the world, the Georgia
Aquarium is quite breathtaking. It is located downtown across from
Centennial Park and is truly incredible. Tickets are $17 for children
and $22.75 for adults. It is recommended you purchase your tickets beforehand
- it cuts down on line wait time and the possibility that they might
sell out!
- World of Coca-Cola:
Make sure you visit the
World of Coca-Cola, a large collection of memorabilia that celebrates
the refreshing beverage that was created here in Atlanta in 1886. It's
fascinating to see how Coke has changed over time, and how the history
of the United States has affected it. Tickets are $5 for children and
$9 for adults.
- Martin Luther King Jr.
National Historic Site: Learn all about
Martin Luther King Jr. and the history of the Civil Rights movement
at the MLKJ National
Historic Site. The cost is free, but donations are accepted.
- Fernbank Museum of Natural
History: One of the largest natural history museums in the
U.S., Fernbank Museum
has some spectaular architecture and exhibits. There is a life-sized
kaleidoscope, a skeleton of the largest dinosaur ever discovered, an
IMAX theater, and a story of the earth's develoment, complete with sound
effects and recreated landscapes. Museum tickets start at $8 for children
and $10 for adults (IMAX theater tickets extra).
- Fox Theatre:
If you're dying to see a show, the Fox
Theatre is the place to go! The inside architecture is quite amazing.
Ticket prices vary depending on the show and time.
- Margaret Mitchell House
and Museum: This house once was the residence where Margaret
Mitchell penned her famous novel "Gone With the Wind". Now,
the Margaret Mitchell
House offers visitors a 90-minute guided tour that tells the story
of the author, the Pulitzer Prize-winning book and the making of the
movie. Tickets are $5 for children and $12 for adults.
- CNN Center:
Home to the world's first and largest 24-hour news network, the CNN
Center features a Studio Tour that treats visitors to a behind-the
scenes look at the live newsrooms in action. The tour features history
and trivia as well as interactive exhibits that put visitors in the
control room and at the anchor desk of their own television newscast.
The cost is $9 for children and $12 for adults.
- Centennial Olympic Park:
Built for the 1996 Summer Olympic Games,
the Centenniel
Olympic Park offers weekly free concerts, a dancing water fountain
for the kids and a memorial quilt in remembrance of the victims of the
1996 Olympic bombing. This is a public park, so the cost is free.
- Zoo Atlanta: One
of the oldest zoos in the United States, Zoo
Atlanta features natural habitats for the animals, as well as two
pandas from China. Tickets are $12 for children and $18 for adults.

home to the Atlanta Botanical Gardens and to summer festivals, is also
